As you'll know by now, Lufthansa plans to use the A380 from Munich to Los Angeles (and Bangkok) this winter. When added to British Airways returning the type to Los Angeles, the California airport will rank sixth among the world's most-served A380 airports this November.

Airports with 100+ A380 November flights

As the following table shows, nine airports worldwide have over 100 A380 departing flights this coming November. As the data is from April 30th, it is subject to change.

Using OAG schedules information reveals that the nine airports mentioned below have 17% fewer A380 flights in November 2023 than they did in 2019. Singapore is the worst impacted (-292 flights; -47%), then Seoul (-286; -61%). In contrast, London Heathrow (+59, +10%), pushing it to second place, and Bangkok (+10, +4%) have both exceeded previous numbers.

Los Angeles now ranks sixth

Los Angeles is noteworthy. While it ranked eighth for A380 flights in November 2019, it is now sixth. However, departures haven't increased: they are 28% lower than they were. It is the result of the airport no longer seeing Asiana's A380s (but it still uses the type) and Air France (withdrawn). It is also from the exit of Frankfurt and Paris CDG from the 'top A380 airports' list.

Five carriers are set to serve Los Angeles: British Airways, Emirates, Korean Air, Lufthansa, and Qantas. This means the California airport will have the second's greatest diversity of A380 operators in the examined month than anywhere else except London Heathrow (six).

Munich is back after four years

Lufthansa last used the double-decker on the 5,989-mile (9,638 km) route from Munich between March 2018 and October 2019. Despite returning this coming winter, it was previously only used in the summer.

Will you be flying any A380 this year? If so, let us know where you're going by leaving a comment.
