What is Corpus Christi Day?

Roman Catholics celebrate Corpus Christi Day (Fronleichnam) in Germany in honor of the Eucharist, which is the Holy Communion and last supper Jesus had with his disciples. The day is a public holiday in the German states of Baden-Wuerttemberg, Bavaria, Hesse, North Rhine-Westphalia, Rhineland-Palatinate, and Saarland and some parts of Sachsen and Thuringia.

The Feast of Corpus Christi is celebrated on the second Thursday, 60 days after Easter Sunday and ten days after Pentecost. With it always falling on a Thursday, it allows Germans to take a long weekend break.

Additional summer destinations

Lufthansa and its subsidiary airline Eurowings are offering more summer 2021 vacation destinations than ever before. For the first time, Lufthansa is flying non-stop to 12 destinations in Greece. Lufthansa customers can also select from choice tropical long-haul destinations such as Male in the Maldives, Cancun, Mexico, and Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic. Lufthansa is hoping that people want to get away following a year of restrictions brought about by COVID-19.

Lufthansa 2022 Schedule

In other Lufthansa news regarding the 2022 schedule, the airline said that it would fly to Punta Cana and Cancun and add a twice-weekly service from Munich to Las Vegas in the United States.

From Frankfurt Rhein-Main-Flughafen (FRA) back on the schedule for 2022, the Lufthansa Group will add three flights a week to Fort Myers in Florida and Panama City in Central America. From May 2022, Salt Lake City will be served for the first time with three weekly non-stop flights.
