Overview Of The IHG® Rewards Club Premier Credit Card 0

The IHG® Rewards Club Premier Credit Card is relatively new and only came on the scene in 2018, replacing a previous iteration of the card. The card comes with a hatful of features and benefits including complimentary Platinum Elite status, annual Free Night Certificate, as well as 4th night free on award bookings. The card carries a mid-level $89 annual fee.

Welcome Bonus

80,000-point welcome bonus for spending $2,000 in the first three months of card membership is pretty generous and can be used to leverage some great value. Top tier properties cost 70,000 points per night, although if you take advantage of the quarterly IHG PointBreaks promotion, your 80,000 will be enough for 5 nights at some of the excellent properties discounted to 15,000 points per night.

Anniversary Free Night Certificate

You can redeem your anniversary free night certificate at any IHG property costing 40,000 points per night or less. While this does limit the value of the certificate, several hotels would cost several hundred dollars per night at which you can use the free night certificate. The certificate is redeemable for a standard room.

4th Night Free On Awards

Holders of the IHG® Rewards Club Premier can benefit from the 4th night free on awards booking. This effectively gives you a 25% discount on the cost of awards. So if you are booking a top tier property (costing 70,000 points per night) for 4 nights, you will only need to pay 210,000 points instead of 280,000 points. The way the benefit is calculated is also useful since the award is applied directly, so when making your reservation, you only need to have enough points to cover the cost of three nights.

Annual Fee

The card comes with a reasonable $89 annual fee, and the fee is not waived in the first year. Regarding fees the card is mid-range. However, the IHG® Rewards Club Premier Credit Card offers enough features and benefits to make the annual fee worthwhile.

Redemption Options

You can redeem your IHG points for stays ranging from 10,000 points per night for lower-tier properties, to 70,000 points for some high-end Intercontinental properties. One of the great perks of the IHG® Rewards Club Premier is that if you are short a few thousand points, you can purchase points directly from IHG with a 20% discount. You can also transfer your IHG points to several airline partners, although the ratios are poor and are not a good use of your points.

Final Thoughts

If you are an IHG fan, the IHG® Rewards Club Premier is a no-brainer. There is plenty of value in the card, and if you take the free night certificate and the 4th night free on awards together or independently, there is more than enough value in there to justify the $89 annual fee. Leveraging your could lead to some substantial savings on your future IHG stays.
