A passenger onboard a Delta flight from Atlanta to New York flew into a rage after being asked to place her dog in a special carrier bag for pets. The woman was then told to disembark the aircraft before launching a water bottle at a fellow passenger. We take a closer look at this incident below.

Delta passenger meltdown

The female Delta Air Lines passenger first came to the attention of cabin crew as her pet dog was sitting in her lap before takeoff. Cabin crew asked the woman to put the dog in a special carrier bag as per Delta policy, which she insisted she had already done.

With the passenger refusing to comply with Delta crew requests, she was eventually asked to leave the aircraft. At this point, the passenger turned aggressive and threatened to fight the flight attendant, but eventually seemed to comply after gathering her belongings.

However, the woman became irritated by a fellow passenger who was recording the incident on their mobile phone and told her to "get off the plane." In response, the woman threw a plastic water bottle at the passenger and continued to swear at the crew.

She was then escorted off the aircraft, with a flight attendant telling her, "you just struck a passenger with a bottle. No one acting this way flies on a flight with us." Before she disembarked the plane, the passenger also struck a phone out of the hand of another passenger.

A Delta spokesperson told Metro,

"Delta has zero tolerance for this kind of behavior on our aircraft and in our airports. Nothing is more important than the safety and security of our people and customers."

No arrests made

The DailyMail reveals that the passenger's name is Anna Dugan, a 31-year-old bartender from Las Vegas. Fortunately for Dugan, she was not arrested after leaving the plane and it appears that no charges will be filed.

A spokesperson from the Atlanta Police Department said,

"[Officers] did respond, but the call was cleared without incident as the parties involved declined to prosecute."

The woman was also reassured by Delta staff that she would be granted a refund, so it appears the airline is willing to exercise forgiveness in this case. The flight itself was not significantly delayed by the incident and departed Atlanta for New York JFK at just a slight delay.

What is Delta's pet policy?

Delta's pet policy allows passengers to bring small pets onboard aircraft, such as dogs, cats and household birds, although this is only available on select routes. Additionally, the airline offers travelers the option of placing their pet in the hold.

Crucially, Delta requires all pets to "be able to fit in a small, ventilated pet carrier that fits under the seat in front of you." It appears that the woman did put her pet in the carrier bag, but kept the pet on her lap and refused to place it under the seat.
