IHG has launched another promotion offering 100% bonus, on the purchase of IHG Rewards Club points. Through November 30, 2018, you receive a 100% bonus when you purchase 7,000 IHG points or more. With the promotion, points are on offer for 0.5 cents apiece which is fantastic value if you have an IHG redemption in mind.
- Offer is valid on purchases through November 30, 2018, 11:59 PM ET
- Receive a 100% bonus on the purchase of IHG Rewards points
- Minimum purchase of 7,000 points needed to trigger the 1,000 Bonus
- You can Purchase a maximum of 100,000 IHG points per year
- Allow up to 72 hours for the points to post to your IHG account
If you opt to make the most of the promotion and purchase the maximum number of points 100,000, you would ultimately receive 200,000 points including the bonus for a total cost of $1,000. This works out at half a cent apiece, which is the lowest we see IHG points for sale.
Maximizing The Promotion
Unfortunately, the purchase of IHG points is processed by points.com; this means that you cannot earn any credit card category bonuses when making your purchases. However, if you hold the IHG® Rewards Club Premier Credit Card, you can leverage some serious value from the promotion. The IHG® Rewards Club Premier offers a wide range of perks and benefits, including a 20% discount on point purchases, and a 4th night free on award stays.
Using your card to make the purchase you would be effectively paying 0.4 cents per point. If you use your points for a longer stay, you would then receive a further 25% discount on the use of your points thanks to the 4th-night free benefit.
For instance, a four-night stay at the Intercontinental Paris Le Grand would normally set you back 280,000 points, if you hold the IHG® Rewards Club Premier Card and take advantage of the promotion, you would only need 210,000 points for your stay (assuming you have 10,000 points in your IHG account). Or around $400 per night in December 2018, so a four-night stay would set you back $1,600.
If you hold the X, purchasing the points for $800, and redeeming them for a for night stay would represent a substantial saving of nearly $800.
IHG regularly publishes promotions offering 100% bonus, on the purchase, of points. In fact, the last one we have seen was last month. That is why if you have no immediate use for your points you are better off leaving this promotion on the table. However, if you have some upcoming IHG stays, and hold the IHG® Rewards Club Premier Credit Card then this promotion can be very lucrative.
