Qatar Airways has revealed seven new destinations, 11 route resumptions, and frequency increases on 35 routes. Among the new cities to be served by the Middle Eastern carrier from its hub at Doha International Airport, we can find Juba, Kinshasa, and Toulouse.

New destinations for Qatar Airways

During its participation at ITB Berlin 2023, Akbar Al Baker, Qatar Airways Group Chief Executive Officer (CEO), announced the airline will add over 655 weekly flights to its summer 2023 schedule compared to 2022. This announcement includes the reveal of seven new destinations to be served by the airline globally. Overall, Qatar Airways will have a 21% rise in flights by July 2023, compared with the same month last year.

These are the new routes to be operated by Qatar Airways: Chittagong (Bangladesh), Juba (South Sudan), Kinshasa (the Democratic Republic of the Congo), Lyon and Toulouse (France), Medan (Indonesia), and Trabzon (Turkey). Qatar Airways said these routes will be launched throughout the year, with Trabzon being the first (June 16) and Chittagong the last (March 11, 2024). Kinshasa, Juba, and Toulouse do not have a confirmed date yet. Qatar Airways will start flying to Lyon on July 3 and to Medan on January 15, 2024. Mr. Akbar Al Baker said,

“We are excited to offer more ways of bringing the world together, increasing connectivity, and bridging gaps within the travel industry. As we expand our fleet, network, partnerships, and international presence, we look forward to working together to deliver sustainable growth and a compelling future for the industry.”

Resuming service to 11 destinations

Following a long hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Qatar Airways has slowly resumed most of its pre-pandemic map route. On Tuesday, the Middle Eastern carrier announced it is resuming flights to 11 destinations.

These destinations are Beijing (China), Birmingham (UK), Buenos Aires (Argentina), Casablanca and Marrakech (Morocco), Davao (Philippines), Nice (France), Osaka and Tokyo Haneda (Japan), Phnom Penh (Cambodia), and Ras Al-Khaimah (UAE).

Casablanca and Marrakech do not have resumption dates yet. The first route to be resumed will be Doha-Beijing, restarting on March 26. Qatar Airways will return to Davao on April 1; Nice on May 9; Tokyo Haneda on June 1; Birmingham on July 10; Phnom Pen on October 29; Ras Al Haima on November 1; Buenos Aires on December 8; and Osaka on March 1, 2024.

By the end of March 2024, Qatar Airways will offer a total of 174 destinations, the airline said during its presentation in Berlin. “It is really unprecedented to have a 21% growth in flights from July 2023 versus July 2022, which translates plus 655 frequencies,” said Al Baker.

The reason Qatar Airways has been conservative in the launch dates for these routes, both new and resumptions, is due to the aircraft deliveries from Airbus and Boeing. Akbar Al Baker hopes the dates will move forward as deliveries progress.

Increase in frequencies on existing routes

Qatar Airways also announced that 35 destinations globally will see an increase in the number of frequencies this year.

Some of the most interesting destinations include London Heathrow and London Gatwick, which will go from 42 and seven weekly frequencies to 45 and 14, respectively. Qatar Airways will also increase frequencies to Edinburgh (ten to 14), Dublin (12 to 14), Zurich (ten to 14), Berlin (11 to 14), Vienna (ten to 14), Hong Kong (11 to 14), Phuket (14 to 21), Denpasar (14 to 21), and much more.
