Qatar Airways is revamping its economy class experience. The new onboard experience has aptly been named Quisine. While it will be phased in gradually, the key difference is that economy passengers will now get larger portions than they are accustomed to.

Qatar Airways has become well known for the service provided on board its aircraft. In fact, the Middle Eastern carrier is widely regarded as having one of the world's leading business class products. Known as Qsuties, the seats comprise an enclosed suite on select routes.

What is Quisine?

Quisine is Qatar Airways' new economy experience branding. The word is a play on the word cuisine. However, it maintains the letter Q for Qatar on which the airline's branding appears to be centered.

Quisine will see the passenger experience in economy revamped onboard Qatar flights. The first change that passengers will see is a redesigned menu prior to the food service commencing. Those who are worried about missing out can stow the "wake me for food" sign. Instead, this menu will outline when the different services will be offered throughout the flight.

Those who want to ask for a second portion also should not fear. With the introduction of the Quisine service regime, meals for economy passengers will be 25% to 50% larger than the current offering. This will complement a larger selection of "movie snacks" on offer by the airline.

While this will mean more food for hungry passengers, it could also potentially lead to more food waste. The news comes at a time when other airlines are cutting the size of economy portions in order to save on fuel. However, in an effort to be more environmentally friendly, the airline is reducing its use of single-use plastics by introducing a new line of tableware.

When can I try Quisine?

Qatar Airways will begin slowly rolling out the new Quisine economy class offering from today. The Quisine product will join flights from April 2019, of which today is the last day. The airline has chosen an interesting group of routes to launch the product on. These are:

  • Brussels
  • Cardiff
  • Gothenburg
  • Moscow
  • St. Petersburg

According to Qatar Airways, the new onboard economy passenger experience will be rolled out across the airline's long-haul and ultra-long-haul services.

"Satisfaction and luxury"

In a Qatar Airways press release sent to Simple Flying, group CEO Mr Akbar Al Baker addressed the new product. He said:

“These latest on-board dining enhancements will undoubtedly provide our passengers with an even higher level of satisfaction and luxury. We have carefully crafted our new Economy Class experience to offer a proposition that ensures our passengers’ journeys are best in class."
