This article was published on November 26th, the day I flew between London Luton and Dublin with my younger son. It raises the question: what are Ryanair's top airports and routes? For this, I've looked at data from the week of November 26th to December 2nd.

Ryanair in the week of November 26th

According to the latest OAG data, Ryanair (and its various subsidiaries) has 15,097 flights in the seven days starting November 26th, between 1,737 (!) and 2,608 daily. Its network this week comprises 205 airports and over 1,750 routes.

It serves 33 countries across Europe, together with Morocco in North Africa and Israel and Jordan in the Middle East. Italy has more flights across Ryanair's 36-strong country network than any other, followed by Spain, the UK, Ireland, Poland, France, Germany, Portugal, Belgium, and Morocco.

OAG indicates that 17% of Ryanair's 15,000-plus flights are domestic. Intra-Italy has more flights across the ULCC's entire operation than any other country market (1,521). It is followed by two international country pairs: UK-Spain (1,030) and Ireland-UK (964).

Ryanair's top ten airports

The following table lists Ryanair's leading airports by flights in the examined week. The top ten airports have 5,114 flights and one-third of Ryanair's total.

Versus a comparable week in 2019, Stansted has seen the most additions (+137 weekly flights). (Across all airlines, Stansted has lost flights from 100+ European airports since 2005.) On a percentage basis, Rome Fiumicino has grown the most (+76%), thanks to Ryanair doubling based aircraft to six. Its Fiumicino route network has risen from just 11 in the equivalent week in 2019 to 34 now.

Ryanair's top ten routes

Across the European giant's entire operation, it has an average of 4 weekly flights per route. Obviously, this hides many differences, with its most-served routes shown below. The continued importance of UK-Ireland, which underpinned Ryanair's formation decades ago, is clear to see.

Compared to the equivalent week in 2019, London Stansted-Barcelona, London Stansted-Madrid, Palmero-Rome Fiumicino, and Milan Bergamo-Naples are no longer in the top ten list. But each remains close to it.
