Singapore Airlines is known for its luxurious cabins and high onboard service standards, but did you know that it also owns a low-cost subsidiary? Known as Scoot, this yellow-clad airline also operates out of Singapore Changi Airport (SIN) and reached ten years of operations last June. Let's take a look at the aircraft in its fleet.

Boeing 787s

Data from ch-aviation.com shows that Scoot has a total of 59 aircraft at its disposal. Of these, 20 are widebodies from the Boeing 787 'Dreamliner' family, with an even split between the short-fuselage 787-8 and the mid-sized 787-9 variants of 10 aircraft apiece. These have respective average ages of 5.9 and 6.4 years.

The 787-8s, of which Scoot has three more on order, have two different seating configurations. Six jets seat 335 passengers across three classes, with this figure comprising 281 in economy, 33 'ScootinSilence' (extra legroom and a smaller cabin) seats, and 21 'ScootPlus' business class recliners. Meanwhile, the other four planes seat 329 passengers, with 278, 33, and 18 seats in these respective cabins.

As for Scoot's larger Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners, the carrier has four more of these twin-engine widebodies on order. The ten examples already in its fleet all have the same three-class, 375-seat configuration. This layout has space for 295 economy class passengers, as well as 45 seats in ScootinSilence and 35 in ScootPlus.

The Airbus A320neo family

Scoot's fleet already has a relatively young average age of 5.5 years old, but its Airbus A320neo family narrowbodies clock in with considerably younger mean figures. Indeed, its standard A320neos are just 2.9 years old, but the youngest type in Scoot's fleet is the A321neo, with an average age of a mere 1.5 years old.

The A320neo family accounts for 15 of Scoot's 39 narrowbodies, with six being examples of the standard A320neo. The Singaporean low-cost carrier and Value Alliance member also has 12 more of these modern twinjets on order. They seat 186 passengers in an all-economy configuration, with 28-29 inches of pitch.

Meanwhile, Scoot has nine Airbus A321neos in its fleet, with six more on order to eventually take it to a full contingent of 15 aircraft. These have played a key role in growing the carrier's network as it recovers from the impacts of the coronavirus pandemic and were used to launch a new route between Singapore and Jeju, South Korea, last year. They have 236 economy class seats onboard.

Older Airbus jets

Scoot's oldest and most numerous aircraft are its Airbus A320-200 twinjets, of which it presently has 24 examples at its disposal. 17 are currently listed by ch-aviation's data as being active, and they are 10.7 years old on average.

Historically speaking, Scoot has also operated a further 10 A320-200s, as well as four smaller A319-100s. Its A320-200s today offer a slightly less dense seating configuration than the newer A320neos, with 180 economy class seats onboard. The exact pitch of these seats ranges from 28 inches all the way up to 30 inches.
