Silk Way West Airlines, an air cargo carrier founded in 2012 and based out of Baku, Azerbaijan, is planning to expand its United States destinations to include Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport and Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport, with weekly and eventually twice-weekly air freight connections to Baku. For Silk Way West Airlines, this is an opportunity to use their 747 freighters to provide heavy lift connectivity to Western Asia and throughout Europe and Asia.

Current Silk Way West Airlines network

The Silk Way West Airlines network may be centered in Baku but connects to many European points and many Asian points. Like many other air cargo airlines, Silk Way West Airlines hauls hundreds of pounds of cargo worldwide in a hub-and-spoke model to help supply chains and postal services along. In a sponsored Air Cargo News piece, Silk Way West Airlines (SWW) said;

SWW provides service to nearly every continent with key destinations in Kazakhstan and throughout Eurasia; the Middle East to include Iraq, Dubai, and Tel Aviv; the Far East with service to Bangkok, Singapore, Hong Kong, Seoul, Shanghai, and Tokyo; and so much more.

SWW also has a strong tradition of public service, being one of the key airlines moving COVID medical supplies and vaccines throughout the world during the pandemic.

According to the same piece, Silk Way West Airlines partners with Global Feeder Services to connect to shippers directly and work with "out-of-gauge and oversized shipments, temperature controlled and sensitive as well as dangerous goods." Global Feeder Services arranges, on average, one charter flight per day on the airlines it partners with.

The 747-400Fs can haul 274,100 pounds of freight 4,455 nautical miles or 8,250 kilometers. Meanwhile, the 747-8Fs can carry 292,400 pounds of cargo 4,265 nautical miles or 7,899 kilometers with the same general engines and cockpit as the 787, including the General Electric GEnx turbofan and fly-by-wire controls. Both are very capable types of air freighters in their own right, and last year Silk Way West Airlines ordered 777s.

It is also worth noting, considering its proximity, that Silk Way West Airlines will not be impacted by sanctions arising from the Russian-Ukraine conflict.

Adding two US airports to Silk Way West Airlines network

With new expansions into Dallas-Fort Worth and also Cincinnati, this will add to Silk Way West Airlines' current Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday direct connections into Chicago's O'Hare International Airport (ORD) and a Monday connection via Luxembourg to O'Hare and then a direct flight back to Baku International Airport (GYD). For Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport (CVG), the connections will be each Wednesday, with a stop at Luxembourg. For Dallas-Fort Worth, it will be a direct connection with Baku every Monday. Again, from Baku, many points in Europe and Asia can be served by connecting Silk West Airlines flights.
