Packing for a holiday is usually quite the hassle as passengers worry about the weight of their checked baggage and if it will meet the airline's requirements. Packing also gets confusing when the weights vary between airlines, cabin classes, destinations, etc.

Despite being regarded as one of the more flexible airlines with better weight limitations, the allowances from Singapore Airlines can still become confusing, especially for first-time flyers. Here's your complete guide to ensuring your weight allowance is perfect for a Singapore Airlines flight.

What is your booking class?

One of the more common concepts practiced by several carriers worldwide is the weight concept for carry-on and checked baggage. Singapore Airlines is no exception, although the fare types and booking classes are essential when determining how much weight a passenger's baggage can be.

The flag carrier currently offers four different booking classes: economy class, premium economy class, business class, and first class. And although Singapore Airlines is one of the few airlines that allow 30 kilograms on economy class bookings, passengers need to note that there are different fare types for economy class.

This means that not every economy class ticket entitles a passenger to check in 30 kilograms of baggage. With these details in mind, the airline's checked baggage allowance for each booking class is as follows:

Class of travel

Weight Allowance

Suites / first class

50kg

Business class

40kg

Premium economy class

35kg

Flexi economy class

30kg

Standard economy class

30kg

Value economy class

25kg

Lite economy class

25kg

If passengers are traveling with an infant, an allowance of 10 kilograms for baggage is entitled regardless of cabin class. And for those traveling on mixed-cabin itineraries, the checked baggage allowance would differ based on the specific flight leg and air ticket.

Where are you flying off to?

With the cabin classes sorted out, we also need the information on the destination. While the weight concept was covered in the earlier table, Singapore Airlines also practices the piece concept for checked baggage, and this applies to all passengers traveling to and from Canada and the US only.

Unlike the weight concept, however, there is no differentiation in fare types for economy class in the piece concept. With this distinction, the piece allowance for all Singapore Airlines flights to and from Canada and the US is as follows:

Class of travel

Piece allowance

Suites / first class

2 pieces, up to 32 kg each

Business class

2 pieces, up to 32 kg each

Premium economy class

2 pieces, up to 23 kg each

Economy class

2 pieces, up to 23 kg each

Another significant difference in the piece concept is that Singapore Airlines only accepts checked baggage that does not exceed a specific size. For example, the sum of each piece of baggage's length, width, and height must not exceed 158 centimeters.

And although an infant is entitled to a weight allowance of 10 kilograms via the weight concept, an infant is entitled to one piece of checked baggage of up to 23 or 32 kilograms, depending on the class of travel, for the piece concept.

Are you a frequent flyer with Singapore Airlines?

With the passengers' boarding classes and destinations determined, the final piece of crucial information needed to know weight or piece allowances when flying with Singapore Airlines would be determining frequent flyer statuses. Most of the flag carrier's frequent flyer members enjoy substantial extra baggage allowances that will correspond to their boarding classes.
