Singapore Airlines will have 2 daily A380 flights to Sydney again while bringing back the quadjet to Hong Kong and Melbourne. It comes soon after it was revealed that Singapore-Frankfurt-New York JFK would switch to the 777-300ER from next May.

The A380 to Hong Kong, Melbourne

Singapore Airlines is no stranger to using the double-decker to Hong Kong and Melbourne. It first used it on the Hong Kong route in June 2009 and operated continuously until February 2020. To Melbourne, it was deployed from September 2009 until March 2020. Their return is a homecoming of sorts, with details below:

Sydney doubles to 2 daily A380

Singapore Airlines returned the A380 to Sydney in December 2021 and has been operating 1x daily since then. However, the Star Alliance member's latest schedule upload available via data provider Cirium confirmed that it'd rise to 2x daily from May 17th. Half of its 4 daily Sydney flights will be by the A380. The carrier's Sydney schedule will be as follows, with all times local:

Singapore to Sydney:

  • SQ231: 00:45-10:25; A380
  • SQ241: 07:15-16:55; A350-900
  • SQ211: 09:35-19:15; 777-300ER
  • SQ221: 20:20-05:55 (+1); A380 (the new second daily; replaces the A350-900)

Sydney to Singapore:

  • SQ212: 07:55-14:15; 777-300ER
  • SQ232: 11:00-17:30; A380 (the new second daily; replaces the A350-900)
  • SQ222: 15:00-21:20; A380
  • SQ242: 18:05-00:20; A350-900

As with Hong Kong and Melbourne, returning Sydney to 2x daily A380 is simply returning it to what it had in normal times. According to Cirium, it first had 2x daily flights in November 2010 and operated at that level until May 2014. Double daily was again operated regularly from November 2016, with the last in February 2020.
