Singapore Airlines has published its April timetable and the pickings are slim. The airline will operate flights to just three European cities; London, Frankfurt and Zurich. Frequencies will be threadbare with around a baker's dozen flights each way on each route across the month.
A threadbare April offering into Europe
Until January, Singapore Airlines was scooting to over 60 cities around the globe, including over a dozen destinations in Europe.
As countries around the world, including those in Europe and Singapore itself, have introduced tough new border restrictions, demand for Singapore Airlines flights has dried up. But the airline is maintaining some services into Europe. As per a Singapore Airlines News Alert, below is their European schedule for April 2020.
An A350-900 will operate flights between Singapore and London Heathrow. The London bound flights will be tagged as SQ322 (except for today's flight, which will be SQ318). The flights will leave Singapore at 23:55 and arrive into London Heathrow at 05:55 the next morning. The April departure dates are 04/01, 04/02, 04/04, 04/07, 04/09, 04/11, 04/14, 04/16, 04/18, 04/21, 04/23, 04/25, 04/28, and 04/30.
The return flight to Singapore will push back from London at 11:25 for a 07:30 touchdown into Singapore the following morning. The April departure dates are 04/02, 04/04, 04/06, 04/09, 04/11, 04/13, 04/16, 04/18, 04/20, 04/23, 04/25, 04/28, and 04/30.
A Boeing 777-300ER to Frankfurt and Zurich
If you have to get to Germany, Singapore Airlines is maintaining a service into Frankfurt. A Boeing 777-300ER will operate the Frankfurt flights. The outbound flight will leave Singapore at 09:45 for a same day late afternoon arrival in Frankfurt at 16:30. The April departure dates are 04/01, 04/03, 04/05, 04/08, 04/10, 04/12, 04/15, 04/17, 04/19, 04/22, 04/24, 04/26, and 04/29.
The flights back to Singapore from Frankfurt will depart Germany's financial hub at 20:00 for a 14:25 landing in Singapore the following day. The April departure dates are 04/02, 04/04, 04/06, 04/09, 04/11, 04/13, 04/16, 04/18, 04/20, 04/23, 04/25, 04/27, and 04/30.
If Zurich is more your style, then Singapore Airlines is also sending a Boeing 777-300ER there. The Zurich flights will leave Singapore at 01:25 for a same day landing in Zurich at 08:15. The April departure dates are 04/01, 04/03, 04/05, 04/08, 04/10, 04/12, 04/15, 04/17, 04/19, 04/22, 04/22, 04/26, and 04/29.
Heading back to Singapore, the flights from Zurich leave at 12:20 for a 06:30 landing into Singapore the following day. The April departure dates are 04/02, 04/04, 04/06, 04/09, 04/11, 04/13, 04/16, 04/18, 04/20, 04/23, 04/25, 04/27, and 04/30.
While these services are better than nothing, it is a forlorn offering for an airline that recently was striding around the globe.
Cuts to services around the globe
It's not just Europe where Singapore Airlines is running a bare-bones service in April. The airline is flying to just four destinations in North Asia; Seoul, Shanghai, Tokyo Narita, and Chongqing. There are just four return services to the two Chinese cities, nine return services to Seoul, and 13 return services to Tokyo Narita.
The airline is flying to six destinations in its near neighborhood; Bangkok, Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh, Kuala Lumpur, Manila, and Jakarta. There are four services to Hanoi and eight to both Ho Chi Minh and Manila.
Bangkok, Jakarta, and Manila fare slightly better. There are 12 return services to Bangkok, 13 return services to Kuala Lumpur and a heady 22 return services to Jakarta.
If you want to go to the United States, it is LA or bust. That's Singapore Airlines' sole North American destination in April and the airline is operating 13 return flights. The situation is also dire if you want to head down to Australia. Sydney is its only April destination and there will be just 12 return flights.
While Singapore Airlines is issuing credits valid until 31 March 2021 for any unused portion of the tickets, the airline ominously notes that it will keep adjusting flights to suit demand and border restrictions.
