Singapore Airlines has opened its new SilverKris and KrisFlyer Gold lounge at its home airport following a S$50 million ($37mn) upgrade project announced in 2019. The new, larger lounges will welcome the airline's elite passengers and reintroduce them to SIA's luxurious amenities before they fly and during transit. Let's find out more.
The SilverKris Lounge
The new lounges are together 30% larger, seating 1,150 passengers over 6,100 square meters. With only 50 premium seats per aircraft roughly, this should mean that the lounge has enough room even during peak hours with dozens of flights.
Named rather confusingly, the SilverKris lounge is actually Singapore Airlines' flagship offering. This is open exclusively for business class, first class, PPS club, and KrisFlyer Elite Gold passengers. However, the lounge is subdivided into three wings: The Private Room, First Class, and Business Class.
The Private Room is for Suites and First class passengers only (no elite members either). This area features four day rooms to rest in, a fine-dining sit-down restaurant, and ample seats for groups of all sizes. Made with privacy in mind, this lounge offers a taste of what is to come in the sky.
Next up is the First Class wing, which is open to the above travelers and Solitaire PPS Club members. This lounge also comes with day rooms to rest up, along with a live buffet station and ample seating for work or rest. While it is a bit less private than The Private Room, most are unlikely to complain.
Finally, we come to the Business Class wing, which is open to PPS Club members as well. This lounge has been expanded by 20%, an important point since travelers complained of how busy this area got at peak departures, and is bigger than the two sections above combined. This section includes a rest area with 14 lounge chairs in semi-enclosed pods, shower suits, and a massive buffet dining room that seats up to 200.
The KrisFlyer Gold Lounge
The KrisFlyer Gold lounge is Singapore Airlines' dedicated lounge for KrisFlyer Gold Elite and other Star Alliance Gold status holders. This lounge is less fancy than its counterpart nearby but still serves as a great area to relax before your next flight. The open-layout design means aviation enthusiasts can see the runway clearly, seating 350 passengers in total.
The lounge offers dedicated showers, a buffet dining area, and open working areas for travelers. During the day, this lounge is likely to be nice and airy, giving you a chance to stretch out and maximize the day at the airport.
Back on track
While the pandemic saw Singapore become one of the most restricted destinations, this has turned around rapidly in the last eight months. Now, Singapore Airlines is back on track, unveiling new products it worked on during the two years of downturn. From new lounges to refurbished cabins, the airline is working hard to reestablish itself as the best airline globally.
