Air Astana is Kazakhstan's flag carrier. The airline was founded 22 years ago in 2001 and has grown to be Central Asia's largest carrier. With bases in both Almaty and Astana, the airline operates a mixed fleet of aircraft, including the world's youngest Boeing 767 jets.

Air Astana has faced a fair few challenges over recent years, such as the COVID-19 pandemic, civil unrest in Kazakhstan, and the implications of the war in Ukraine. However, despite all of these factors, the airline has thrived. The airline reported its second-largest profit by a long margin for the 2023 financial year.

Low-cost subsidiary

Air Astana opened a low-cost subsidiary called FlyArystan in early 2019. The carrier saw a gap in the market that was mainly served by long train journeys and pounced on it. With a striking red livery, the airline has flourished, redefining domestic and international travel for many of Kazakhstan's residents. In fact, in 2022, the low cost subsidiary had over 20,000 flights, and more than 3 million passengers.
