TAP Air Portugal will strongly increase its flight offer to the Americas in the summer of 2023. The Portuguese State carrier will be offering a total of 17 additional flights during the peak period of operation between June and September compared to the same period in 2022. Additionally, TAP Air Portugal will be restoring its pre-pandemic offer levels.

Increasing flights to the United States

The United States, Venezuela, and Brazil will be three key markets for TAP Air Portugal next year. As of December 2022, TAP Air offers 92 weekly flights to these three countries, operating 21 routes (one to Venezuela, eight to the United States, and 12 to Brazil).

The Portuguese carrier currently flies from Lisbon International Airport (LIS) to Boston International (BOS), Newark International (EWR), Washington International (IAD), John F. Kennedy International (JFK), Miami International (MIA), Chicago O’Hare International (ORD), and San Francisco International (SFO). It also flies from Porto (OPO) to Newark.

For the United States, TAP will offer 14 flights per week to Boston in the peak summer season next year (that’s three more flights than in the same period in 2022), five to Chicago (one more), ten to Miami (three more) and ten to Washington (two more). In total, TAP will offer ten more flights per week to the United States next year. The capacity of its commercial services to New York’s Newark and JFK airports will remain the same next year.

What about Brazil?

By far, Brazil is TAP Air’s largest market in the Americas, and rightly so. The Portuguese carrier explodes the cultural connections between both countries, operating 12 unique routes and having a strong codeshare partnership with Azul Linhas Aéreas (AD).

From Lisbon, TAP Air flies to Belem (BEL), Brasilia (BSB), Belo Horizonte (CNF), Fortaleza (FOR), Rio de Janeiro (GIG), São Paulo (GRU), Natal (NAT), Porto Alegre (POA), Recife (REC), and Salvador (SAL). From Porto, it flies to Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo.

In 2022, TAP Air carried more than 500,000 passengers between January and October, recovering 97% of its pre-pandemic traffic levels.

In the peak summer of 2023, TAP will offer four flights a week to Belém, one more than in 2022, seven to Belo Horizonte (one more), six to Salvador (one more), six to Brasília (one more) and 20 to São Paulo (two more), maintaining its offer compared to the same period last year in the other Brazilian cities where it operates (Fortaleza, Natal, Maceió, Porto Alegre, Recife, and Rio de Janeiro). In total, TAP will increase the number of weekly flights to Brazil by six during the peak summer of 2023, compared to the same period in 2022.
