Turkish Airlines has increased Istanbul Airport to Copenhagen flights to 24 weekly. Starting July 1st, in time for the peak season, there are four flights on three days a week, with triple daily on the rest. It falls short of the 28 weekly – four daily every day – held on just nine dates in summer 2019, according to OAG data. However, it is higher than in any year except 2019.

Turkish Airlines to Copenhagen

The Star Alliance member's updated Copenhagen schedule is as follows, with all times local. It is based on the week starting July 1st. The addition is the overnight flight; historically, Turkish Airlines would remain overnight in Copenhagen.

Note that, unlike in different previous years, no widebodies are scheduled. According to OAG, all flights are expected to be by the A321ceo, but the 737-800 is likely to appear too, and the A321neo may materialize.

Copenhagen passengers

In 2019, Turkish Airlines carried an estimated 392,000 roundtrip passengers between Istanbul Airport and Copenhagen, according to booking data. It had 460,000 seats for sale, meaning an average annual seat load factor of about 85%.

Breaking down traffic reveals that about 7 in 10 passengers transited Turkish Airlines' Istanbul hub (see below), while more than a quarter was point-to-point; they only traveled to/from Copenhagen and Istanbul. Helped by Turkish Airlines and SAS's codeshare, about 3% of passengers bridged both hubs, while about 2% transited to SAS over Copenhagen.

The Middle East is number one

Analysis of booking data shows where Turkish Airlines' Copenhagen transit passengers went in 2019. Perhaps unsurprisingly, given the geographic location of Istanbul, Copenhagen's diaspora, and Turkish Airlines' network strengths, the most significant chunk of connecting passengers transited wider Turkey. After all, Turkish heritage and nationality are a major ethnic group in Denmark.

For a similar reason, Iran, Iraq, and Lebanon were Turkish Airlines' next biggest country markets, followed by Israel, Thailand, UAE, South Africa, Pakistan, and India. At the regional level, booking data indicates that more passengers were transported to/from the Middle East than anywhere else.

Turkish Airlines' most popular origin and destination was Copenhagen to Beirut. Next was Copenhagen-Tehran, then Gaziantep, Tel Aviv, Ankara, Antalya, Konya, Izmir, Kayseri, and Tbilisi. If extended to its top 20, Dubai was 11th, then Dalaman, Mumbai, Erbil, Najaf, Baghdad, Phuket, Bangkok, Sulaimaniyah, and Adana.
