Last summer proved a season of recovery for United Airlines after the airline launched a schedule that was 25% bigger compared to pre-pandemic summers. And it seems the expansion is continuing this summer, as the airline's recently announced program shows flight services to 114 different international cities, including nearly 25 new routes.

Another expansive summer for United Airlines

According to United Airlines, international bookings have consistently risen 15% higher than in the same period last year. To respond to such a sharp increase in demand for travel outside of the US, the airline has expanded its flight offerings this summer by 25%.

This year's summer schedule highlights the launch of several new routes, some to unique destinations like Dubai and Malaga. United Airlines will also offer upgraded frequencies to popular destinations like Barcelona and Paris and will be the largest airline across the Asia-Pacific, serving more than 25 destinations.

Senior Vice President of the airline's global network planning and alliances, Patrick Quayle, said:

"United will give travelers more options than ever before this summer – especially if they want to fly internationally. With unprecedented demand for travel overseas, we'll have more service to popular cities while also adding new and unique destinations for customers to explore."

United Airlines flies to new destinations

One of the many new destinations was the recently launched Newark-Dubai route. It sees United Airlines operating a Boeing 777-200ER from Newark Liberty International Airport to Dubai International Airport daily as part of its historical partnership with Emirates.

Another new destination will see the airline broadening its European network from San Francisco. Commencing May 25th, the Star Alliance member will launch daily flight services from San Francisco International Airport to Rome's Leonardo da Vinci–Fiumicino Airport with its Boeing 777-200ER. With flights to Rome, Milan, Venice, and Naples, United Airlines will fly to more cities in Italy from the US than any other global airline.

And the new destinations keep on coming as United Airlines will add more seasonal flights to Ireland with the launch of new daily flight services to Shannon Airport from Chicago O'Hare International Airport from May 25th. The airline's Boeing 757-200 will be utilized on this route.

Even more new destinations this summer

From May 25, the airline is offering a new flight service between Washington Dulles International Airport and Berlin Brandenburg Airport on its Boeing 767-400ER. And on the same day, United Airlines will offer new daily flights from Chicago to Barcelona–El Prat Airport.

A couple of days later, on May 27th, United Airlines will re-launch flight services between Newark and Stockholm Arlanda Airport for the first time since 2019. The daily flights will be operated with the airline's Boeing 757-200s. The next new destination for this summer is the airline's fifth Spanish destination of Malaga.

Then on May 31st, the airline will commence flight services between Newark and Málaga–Costa del Sol Airport on its Boeing 757-200. Non-stop flight services will also be offered to two other Spanish cities that no other US carriers serve, specifically Tenerife and Palma de Mallorca, making United Airlines the only US carrier that flies to that many destinations in Spain.

Additional services to Paris and London

United Airlines will have 23 daily flights to London Heathrow this summer, with the recent addition of a second daily flight from Los Angeles International Airport on a Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner. This new flight builds upon United's recent London expansion, with additional flights from Newark, San Francisco, and Denver International Airport and new flights from Boston Logan International Airport.

The airline is also adding more options for travel between Washington and Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport, with a second daily flight launching on June 2nd, operated by a Boeing 777-200ER. This will complement the airline's current year-round offering of flight services to Paris from Newark, Washington, Chicago, and San Francisco.

United Airlines' further expansions

Alongside the new flights and upgraded frequencies, United Airlines will reinstate nine transatlantic routes it added last summer, including non-stop flights on the Newark-Nice; Denver-Munich; Boston-London Heathrow; Chicago-Zurich; and Chicago-Milan routes. Flights to other unique destinations, including Amman and Azores, will also be reinstated.

The airline has also added a second seasonal frequency on the Newark-Edinburgh route from May 25th to October 27th and on the Newark-Naples route from June 23rd to September 7th. Besides a European expansion, United Airlines will also be expanding across Asia-Pacific with recent resumptions between Denver-Tokyo and San Francisco-Hong Kong.

New flight services were also added after the launch of Washington-Tokyo and Los Angeles-Tokyo. The airline will also have an expanded schedule in Australia this summer, including non-stop routes to the country's three largest cities - Sydney, Melbourne, and Brisbane. And with the recently launched codeshare agreement with Virgin Australia, passengers flying with United to Australia has more accessible connections to more than 20 additional cities within the country.
