United Airlines has applauded Spain’s decision to reopen for all vaccinated visitors from 7th June this year. United flies to more European destinations than any other US air carrier, and it is launching three new leisure routes to the continent this summer.
United is happy with the European Union’s recommendation
United Airlines has applauded Spain for deciding to start allowing international visitors who are fully vaccinated to enter the country starting 7th June this summer.
Spain’s announcement comes following the major step taken by the European Union Council earlier this week to recommend that the entire block of 27 member states opens its doors to fully vaccinated travelers.
United will be operating as many as 30 daily flights to a total of 16 destinations in Europe at the height of the summer season this year. In Spain, this will include a five-weekly service between New York and Barcelona and a six-weekly service between New York and Madrid. Both services resume in July.
Meanwhile, in Italy, another popular European destination, United will fly daily starting July to both Rome Fiumicino and Milan Malpensa.
A clear way forward for transatlantic travel
Commenting on the change in travel restrictions, Patrick Quayle, vice president of international network and alliances at United, stated:
"The EU Council's recommendation represents the turning of the page in the pandemic for our customers, employees and residents of the EU, and brings us all closer to reuniting the world.”
Along with resuming existing services, United is launching three brand new routes this summer: Dubrovnik in Croatia, Reykjavik in Iceland, and Athens in Greece.

On top of this, United is boosting capacity to its Star Alliance partner hubs that are also bases of Lufthansa Group airlines: Frankfurt, Munich, and Brussels. United has been linking markets like Croatia and Greece through these three hubs via Aegean Airlines and Croatia Airlines for years.
Health remains a priority
United’s Travel-Ready Center is up and running for all passengers wishing to travel to and from Europe this summer, and the airline is also collaborating with Abbott to become the first US carrier to set up an easy way for international travelers to bring a CDC-approved test with them, self-administer while abroad, and return home.
Quayle emphasized this by saying:
"In addition to offering service to more destinations in Europe than any other U.S. carrier, only United allows customers to easily upload vaccine records and testing results to our app making international travel much easier."
