The 2023 Super Bowl is fast approaching. Held this year in Glendale, Arizona, on February 12th, it will be between the Philadelphia Eagles and the Kansas City Chiefs. Naturally, the match has seen airlines add many flights to Phoenix to accommodate the much higher demand. Here's the latest as of January 31st.

Kansas City to/from Phoenix

Usually, the 1,044 miles (1,680km) between Kansas City and Phoenix has seven to eight flights a day in February, with service from American, Southwest, and Frontier. To benefit from the huge demand and resulting sky-high fares, there are now up to 16 flights to Phoenix (February 10th) and 19 back (13th), as shown in the figure below.

Delta and United have added services (see below), while American and Southwest have boosted frequencies. American is up from three to five daily to Phoenix, and up to six from, while Southwest has grown from four daily to a max of seven. Among the most extreme timings is AA602: leaving Arizona at 01:35 on the 13th and arriving at 05:05 local.

Delta and United's Kansas City additions

Delta has four departures to Phoenix: two on the 10th (07:10 by the A321 and 10:00 by the 757-200) and two on the 11th (09:52 by the 757-200 and 11:30 by the A320). Returning, it has four departures on the 13th: 08:55 (757-200), 10:30 (737-800), 12:57 (737-800), and 15:30 (757-200).

United, meanwhile, has added three flights to Arizona: two on the 10th (08:00 by the 737-800, 09:00 by the MAX 9) and one on the 11th (08:00 by the 737-800). All three return to Kansas City on the 13th: 00:20 (737-800), 09:15 (737-800), and 10:30 (MAX 9).

For the Chiefs, Delta also has one roundtrip between Phoenix and Wichita. Operated by Skywest, the Embraer E175 leaves Kansas at 08:15 on the 10th. For the flight home, it goes at 09:40 on the 13th.

What about Philadelphia?

The 2,075-mile (3,340km) market to Phoenix, connecting two American hubs, usually has seven flights daily. Obviously, it's enormously about American (typically six daily), alongside ULCC Frontier (daily). For the Super Bowl, there are up to 13 daily flights to Arizona (10th) and up to 10 back (13th). Delta, Southwest, and United have added flights, but the incumbents haven't.

Looking at Philadelphia-Phoenix, Delta has one flight on the 10th (13:30; 737-800) and the 11th (11:15; 737-800). Southwest, meanwhile, has two departures on both the 9th (10:00 and 12:30) and 10th (08:30 and 12:15), along with one on the 11th (12:15). Finally, there's United. It, too, has a double daily on the 10th: at 09:00 by the MAX 9 and 11:30 by the 757-200. Going home, all leave on the 12th or 13th.
