A Wizz Air flight from Billund in Denmark to Tuzla in Bosnia and Herzegovina encountered two problems yesterday: first, it was diverted to Belgrade because it could not land in Tuzla due to fog. Then, a passenger who did not want to land in Serbia completely lost control and had to be pinned to the floor after he threatened to kill everyone on board.

Passenger loses control after Wizz Air flight diverts to Tuzla

A Danish national, Sulejman Imamović, found himself having an extreme outburst of anger after his flight from Denmark to Bosnia and Herzegovina got diverted to Belgrade Nikola Tesla Airport in Serbia.

The best video of the incident was published by Blic and can be viewed here.

The diversion seriously upset the passenger who then caused complete chaos in the cabin, as reported by Klix and as outlined in multiple videos shot by other passengers. Screaming from the top of his lungs, he swore at other passengers and at Wizz Air cabin crew for allowing the flight to be diverted to Serbia.

He also spat excessively on other passengers, swore aggressively at the cabin crew, and said he would bring down the airplane and kill himself and everyone on board. He even swore at the cabin crew by their names and threatened to kill them. He ran toward the aircraft door and had to be pinned down and tied.

The passenger was traveling on flight W6 4278 from Billund (BLL) to Tuzla (TZL), which operates on Tuesdays and Saturdays. The flight, like almost all other flights in Bosnia and Herzegovina over the past few days, could not land in Tuzla due to heavy fog. Instead, it diverted to Belgrade, where Wizz Air also has a multi-aircraft base.

More on the traveler

It is clear that the passenger, Sulejman Imamović, was strongly opposed to finding himself within the territory of Serbia. There are ongoing tensions between people who emigrated and who are living in Bosnia and Herzegovina and Serbia due to the wide-ranging impact that armed conflicts in the 1990s had on the populations of the former Yugoslav Republics.

The passenger got arrested and charged with racially-motivated hate

When the plane landed in Belgrade, the passenger was arrested on security grounds. However, after further consultations, the charges against him were significantly expanded.

He was additionally charged with inciting hatred on a national, ethnic, and religious basis, on top of being charged with threatening the security of passengers onboard the aircraft.

In the YouTube video above and in the video published by Blic, it is fully clear that the man's threatening of everyone's security was brought about on ethnic grounds.
