Vietnamese low-cost carrier VietJet Air is set to launch two direct links to New Delhi, India. From December, the carrier will start to nonstop routes to the city originating in Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi.
The Vietnamese aviation industry is currently experiencing huge growth. The growth, driven in part by the country's booming tourism industry, has seen a number of new carriers spring up recently. While Bamboo Airways has its eyes set on Airbus A380 flights to the United States, low-cost carrier VietJet Air has its sights set on the Indian market. The LCC will operate non-stop flights to the country by the new year.
Who is VietJet Air?
VietJet Air is one of four airlines currently operating out of Vietnam. The airline operates alongside Vietnam Airlines, Jetstar Pacific, and Bamboo Airways. It also has potential competition from Vietstar Airways and Vinpearl who are currently eyeing commencement of operations.
VietJet Air is one of Vietnam's low-cost carriers. The airline began its operations in 2011, having been founded in 2007. The carrier currently operates a fleet of all Airbus A320 family aircraft. However, it also has an outstanding order for 200 Boeing 737 MAX aircraft, including 100 of the -200 version of the aircraft, the same type on order from Ryanair.
New Indian services
VietJet Air is to launch two new services to India in December 2019. Both services will travel to New Delhi. However, they will depart from different origins. According to Business Traveller, the first flight will start on the 6th of December from Ho Chi Minh. The Ho Chi Minh service will operate on Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday.
- The outbound flight will depart from Ho Chi Minh at 19:00, before arriving in Delhi at 22:50.
- The return flight will depart from New Delhi at 23:50, arriving back in Ho Chi Minh at 06:10 the next day.
On the days not served by a Ho Chi Minh service, VietJet Air will fly to New Delhi from Hanoi. This will see services operate on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Sundays. The flight uses the same slot at New Delhi Airport and operates as follows:
- The outbound flight will leave Hanoi at 19:10, before arriving in Delhi at 22:50.
- The return flight will depart from New Delhi at 23:50, arriving back in Hanoi at 05:20.
Other Vietnamese routes announcements
VietJet Air's announcement isn't the only international route announcement to come out of Vietnam this week. Yesterday we reported that Vietnam Airlines will begin operating its shiny new Boeing 787-10 aircraft to Seoul from the 1st of October. This will be the first international service of the new Boeing 787-10 in Vietnam Airlines' fleet.
