In a world where we hear daily stories of passengers being rude to cabin crew, demanding to switch seats and just being downright disgusting, it’s really refreshing to hear a bit of good news. As such, we’re delighted to share the story of a generous man called Jack and a sweet old lady called Violet, and how he really made her day.
A young man called Jack was traveling from New York to the UK earlier this month. He and his family had, very sensibly, opted for Virgin Atlantic’s Upper Class cabin for their long trip across the Atlantic. However, when Jack boarded the flight, he didn’t get comfortable in his lie flat seat. Instead, he headed back to economy.
He sought out 88 year old Violet (presumably they had met in the airport) and insisted they swapped seats for the flight. Violet, beside herself with excitement, went and got settled into Upper, while Jack took his allocated seat next to the toilets in economy.
A Virgin Atlantic flight attendant called Leah who was working on the flight shared the heart-warming story via Facebook last week, where it was picked up by various outlets including Live And Lets Fly.
No fuss, no attention
Speculating on the motivation of this kind young man, Leah said that Violet has always dreamed of flying in the pointy end of the plane. Jack, out of the kindness of his heart, finally made her dream come true.
In her Facebook post, Leah said,
“He then sat on the row of seats directly next to the economy toilets and never made a peep or asked for anything the rest of the flight. No fuss, no attention, literally did it out of the kindness of his own heart, no one asked him to.”
According to her post, the 88 year old lady has worked as a nurse both in the UK and the USA, and now travels transatlantic to visit her daughter. It was the first time she’d traveled for some years, due to having a knee replacement previously. Thanks to Jack, we think this will be a flight she’ll never forget!
A selfie problem
Violet was so delighted with the outcome of her flight, she wanted a ‘selfie’ to show her daughter. However, she doesn’t have a mobile phone of her own, and doesn’t even have an email address. Thankfully, that’s not going to stop her from getting the photos. Leah went on to say,
“You should of seen her face, when I tucked her in her bed after supper. She said her daughter won’t believe her, and wanted a ‘selfie’ to prove it, but didn’t have a phone or an email address. These photos are getting sent in the post tomorrow, can you even cope”
We’d like to thank Leah for going the extra mile for this customer, and for sharing this wonderful story too. Mostly, we’d like to thank Jack for showing a bit of true Christmas spirit and giving an old lady the flight of her life!
