Vistara has announced a special meal festival onboard all its long-haul flights to mark two years of operating such flights. The airline will offer passengers Awadhi cuisine as part of its inflight meals from August 5th to 31st. The special meals will be available on all flights from India to Paris, Frankfurt, and London during the mentioned period.

Mr Deepak Rajawat, Chief Commercial Officer, Vistara, said,

“At Vistara, we are on a constant quest to find ways to delight our customers, and completing two years of our long-haul operations gives us the perfect reason to celebrate with them. We have often received very positive feedback on Indian regional favourite meals from our customers on flights to and from the UK and Europe, regardless of their demographics. ‘Daawat-e-Awadh’ is designed to create a memorable gastronomic experience for our customers onboard India’s finest full-service carrier.”

What is Awadhi cuisine?

Awadhi cuisine originates from the Awadh region of India's most populous state of Uttar Pradesh in the north. The culture dates back hundreds of years and is said to be similar to cooking practices in the Middle East and even Central Asia. Uttar Pradesh's capital Lucknow is well known for having authentic Awadhi cuisine.

Vistara's special menu includes vegetarian as well as non-vegetarian food options to accommodate all passengers. The special Awadhi cuisine comprises famous Awadhi dishes like Zafrani Pulao (a rice dish with flavored spices), Dum ka Paneer (a curry of spiced cottage cheese), Murg Handi Korma (chicken curry), Aloo Bukhara Kofta (potato curry), Achari Murg Khurchan (pickled chicken curry), and Kashmiri Roti (Indian bread). Passengers will also be offered a selection of desserts like Shahi Tukda (made from bread slices soaked in rose sugar syrup) and Matka Kulfi (frozen dairy served in a clay pot).

Indeed, Vistara is calling the special food festival 'Daawat-e-Awadh,' loosely translated to English as a 'Feast of Awadhi cuisine.' India is known around the globe for the diversity of its cuisines, and it is heartening to see an airline expand its inflight options to include such cherished dishes.

Vistara's long-haul ambitions

Vistara is one of only two full-service carriers in India to offer long-haul services on widebody aircraft. The carrier first started operating long-haul flights from Delhi's IGI Airport (DEL) to London Heathrow Airport (LHR) in August 2020. Although Vistara has added two more international long-haul destinations since then, its growth in the sector has been limited mainly due to Boeing's inability to deliver more Dreamliners.

However, as Simple Flying reported, the airline has finally decided to lease one Boeing 787 while it waits for deliveries to commence. The incoming aircraft will most probably be used to bolster frequencies on current routes, or even start the Mumbai-London route that Vistara has been eyeing for quite a while.
