Hub and spoke versus point-to-point
For many years, hub and spoke has been the preferred method of operations for the world’s largest airlines. Funneling passengers through sprawling airport hubs has allowed these aviation giants to connect far away destinations across the globe.
One such airline that has flourished under the hub and spoke model is Emirates.
In more recent times, some airlines have begun to turn away from this model towards point-to-point operations. This has allowed carriers, particularly low-cost airlines, to monopolize direct routes and steal traffic away from the legacy operators.
With COVID-19 potentially making some passengers less keen to connect in foreign airports, is hub and spoke going to survive? We’ll be asking Sir Tim Clark all about this, and much more, in our first-ever webinar.
