Wizz Air UK has just reached an exciting milestone in its young history. Specifically, an impressive total of 15 million passengers have now used its flights to and from its base at London Luton Airport. Luton is also the location of the headquarters of the airline, which was founded as a subsidiary of Wizz Air after Brexit.

15 million and counting

In a statement released today to celebrate the achievement, Wizz Air UK reflected on the half a decade of operations that has elapsed since it opened its base at London Luton Airport. During this time, the carrier has continued to expand its network of routes out of Luton despite the challenges of recent years.

Wizz Air UK first opened its Luton base in 2017. Five years down the line, it now flies to 69 destinations in 30 countries from the Bedfordshire facility, making it the largest carrier at the airport. This year alone has seen it launch nine new routes from Luton, and acquire two new daily slot pairs. Commenting on the milestone, Marion Geoffroy, the Managing Director of Wizz Air UK, stated that:

"As the largest operator at LLA, we would like to thank our loyal customers for continuing to choose Wizz Air for our low fares, diverse route network, and great service. [We] look forward to welcoming them onboard our young, efficient, and sustainable aircraft."

A close working relationship

Through its continued expansion of its portfolio of low-cost routes to Europe and beyond from London Luton, Wizz Air UK has developed a tight bond with the airport. Indeed, Jonny Rayner, Luton's CCO, states that:

"This is an exciting milestone that highlights the strength and success of our partnership with Wizz Air UK."

According to Wizz Air UK, the carrier has 11 aircraft based at London Luton, with 1,75 million seats currently available on its wide range of routes from the airport. Reflecting on the carrier's growth, Rayner added that:

"This year has seen the continued expansion of Wizz Air UK’s route network from London Luton Airport, with the addition of several hugely popular new routes providing our guests with even greater choice. As ever, our priority is to continue to provide a smooth and friendly travel experience to everyone who passes through the airport, and we look forward to working alongside Wizz Air towards its next passenger milestone."
