Hungarian-headquartered Wizz Air is now offering more flights to the Canary Islands from London Luton Airport (LTN) and Doncaster Sheffield Airport (DSA). The increase in the number of flights to the popular winter destination comes after Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez excluded the Canary Islands from Spain's nighttime curfew.

On mainland Spain and the Balearic Islands, the Spanish government has introduced a 23:00 to 06:00 curfew in the hope of stopping the coronavirus from spreading. The Canary Islands were not included in the new state of emergency as the Atlantic Ocean islands have a lower infection rate than the rest of Spain and Europe.

The Canaries are on the UK safe list

The move to exclude winter sun destinations like Tenerife and Gran Canaria came after United Kingdom Transport Secretary Grant Shapps put the Canaries back on the UK's "safe list" of countries and regions. With the Canary Islands on the "safe list," British holidaymakers will no longer have to self-quarantine for 14-days when they return home.

However, tourists to the Canaries may need to prove they are COVID-19 free with a certificate, or by taking a coronavirus test at a local clinic, before being allowed in hotels.

In the Wizz Air statement, the low-cost carrier says it is adding additional flights to the Canaries so that weather weary Brits can get some winter sunshine.

Starting Tuesday, October 27, Wizz Air will fly twice a week from London Luton Airport to Lanzarote and Fuerteventura and three times per week to Gran Canaria and Tenerife. From Doncaster/Sheffield, Wizz Air will offer two flights per week to Lanzarote, Gran Canaria, and Tenerife.

The Canary Islands have an ideal climate

Fuerteventura is blessed with having the biggest and best beaches in the Canaries and is the place to go if you are into water sports like surfing, diving, and deep-sea fishing.
