The venerable Boeing 757 is still relatively well used. This summer, nine passenger airlines have planned more than 124,000 flights, according to OAG data – more than 570 daily. About nine in ten 757 flights involve the USA, mainly thanks to Delta, but also United, Icelandair, and now Northern Pacific. Globally, the average 757 route length is 1,343 miles (2,161 km), which raises the inevitable question: what are the shortest routes?
The world's 10 shortest 757 routes
The northern summer season runs from March 26th until October 28th. Analysis of all summer schedules using OAG reveals that – of all bookable routes – Northern Pacific's unusual Ontario-Las Vegas is the world's shortest scheduled 757 route.
Operating on Fridays out and Sundays back, purposively timed for a weekend trip to Sin City, it covers 197 miles (317 km). It has a block time of one hour in both directions; the flight time will be about 40 minutes.

The 10 have 8,200+ flights
The 10 routes mentioned above have 8,200 of the 124,000 roundtrip 757 services this summer, or some 7%. They have an average of 38 flights daily, but as 'few' as 26 and as many as 44.
With so many one-offs or very infrequently served routes, it means that a small selection has a huge number of flights. Just two – Atlanta to Jacksonville and Raleigh Durham – are responsible for a whopping 96% of flights. Delta exclusively uses the 757 on Atlanta-Jacksonville (nine to 11 daily departures), while 81% of Raleigh Durham services are by the 757 (two to 10 daily flights are by the type).

What about Europe?
Given that 757 use is so heavily skewed towards the US, it is no surprise that only US routes are within the top 10. However, at 369 miles (594 km) – making it the world's 11th shortest globally – German leisure carrier Condor has filed 16 roundtrip flights between Frankfurt and Trieste between July and September using the 757-300. While it doesn't fall in the top 10 by distance, it is the world's second-shortest 757-300 route.
